The Foundation Programme
Building secure skills, clarity, and confidence in English.

The Programme
This programme provides a calm, flexible starting point for students who need to rebuild confidence and clarity in English.

The Foundation Programme is a highly individualised starting point designed around the specific needs of each student. Rather than following a fixed curriculum, sessions are shaped by where the student feels least confident and where support will have the greatest impact.

For some students, this may mean building confidence with sentence structure or written expression. For others, it may involve developing reading comprehension, organising ideas, or learning how to approach English tasks without anxiety. The focus is always on helping the student feel secure, capable, and in control of their learning.

This programme is particularly suited to students who feel unsure in English, lack confidence in certain areas, or need time and space to rebuild trust in their own ability. Sessions are based on individual need rather than age or year group.
What the Foundation Programme focuses on

Because the programme is tailored, the focus may include:

-
Strengthening areas where confidence is weakest
-
Developing clearer control over how students read questions and structure written responses
-
Understanding what tasks are asking and how to respond in a focused, structured way
-
Building positive study habits and independence
-
Reducing anxiety around English tasks and rebuilding confidence through supported success
What the Foundation Programme is designed to support
This programme is designed to support early changes in how students approach English. These may include:
-
attempting tasks independently rather than waiting for reassurance
-
reading questions more carefully before writing
-
organising ideas more clearly in short responses
-
showing less avoidance or anxiety around English work
-
being able to explain what they are finding difficult, and why
These early changes reflect a shift towards greater confidence and understanding.
How Sessions Work
Session Structure
Sessions are 1:1 and shaped around the student. Each lesson has a clear focus informed by ongoing observation and progress, with written targets set and reviewed regularly to support the student’s development. Teaching is carefully paced to allow understanding to develop without pressure.

Preparation and Pace
Students are not expected to prepare in advance. Lessons are designed to be supportive, structured, and confidence-building, with an emphasis on helping students understand why improvements matter as well as what to work on.

Timeframe and Progression
The Foundation Programme does not follow a fixed timeframe. Students may remain on the programme for as long as it continues to meet their needs, with the focus on building confidence and secure understanding at a pace that feels right for them.
Is this the right programme?
The Foundation Programme is ideal for students who need individualised support, reassurance, and time to build confidence in English. It is not a one-size-fits-all course or a quick-fix option. Instead, it provides a strong, supportive foundation from which students can progress with clarity and confidence.

If you are unsure whether this programme is the right fit, we am happy to advise before booking.

Recommendations are always based on the student’s current needs, not on selling a higher-tier programme.
