Dominic Madden
A Level Language & Literature Specialist | IGCSE & KS5 English
I’m a UK-qualified English teacher with experience teaching students across KS3–KS5, specialising in English Language and Literature at both GCSE and A Level. Over the past six years, I have worked closely with a wide range of learners, including students retaking GCSE English after not achieving the grade they had hoped for the first time around.
What matters most to me is helping students build confidence in their own thinking and communication. Strong writing begins with clarity: understanding how to structure ideas, approach questions methodically, and express responses with precision and purpose. My aim is always to create a supportive environment where students feel capable, motivated, and genuinely proud of their progress.
Much of my work has focused on helping students rebuild confidence with English, particularly those preparing to re-sit GCSE qualifications. I understand how discouraging previous exam experiences can feel, and I place a strong emphasis on patience, encouragement, and practical strategies that help students see measurable improvement over time.
Outside the classroom, I am an avid reader with a genuine love for literature, language, and storytelling. That enthusiasm shapes my teaching; I want students not only to improve their grades, but also to develop a stronger appreciation for the subject itself.
Dominic's approach works especially well for:
Students preparing for Cambridge IGCSE or A Level English
Students looking for
clear, supportive guidance
with essay writing
and exam technique
Students rebuilding
confidence after previous

Students who benefit from

steady, manageable progress
All students are supported at their individual starting point,
with lessons adapted to their needs and goals.
